In the past while working at a computer  I would be uncomfortable and I couldn’t concentrate like I can now that I’ve had Dr. Rachel’s help.   - Dianna

Meet Dr. Rachel Weene

A One-on-One Interview with Dr. Rachel… read why helping her patients achieve optimal health is her daily inspiration…

What made you want to become a chiropractor?

During my undergraduate career as an exercise science major, I became increasingly fascinated with the human body.  I knew two things about my dream job; I knew I wanted to work in health care and I knew I wanted to help people.  As time went by and I learned more about the human body, I came across chiropractic care.  I loved how chiropractic care used the human body to promote healing through a more holistic approach. I decided to shadow chiropractors and even seek chiropractic treatment for myself. I loved what I was learning and after experiencing treatment myself for chronic headaches, I knew I wanted to be a chiropractor.  I knew a career as a chiropractor would not only enable me to help others decrease their pain, but, more importantly, to enhance their quality of life.

What keeps you motivated as a chiropractor today?

My biggest motivation is my patient’s progress.  It is incredible to see someone go from having pain every day of their life to be able to get back into activities that they thought they would never be able to do again. Allowing people to live life to their fullest potential and to be at their most optimal health are my biggest goals for all my patients.  Hearing stories about their progress motivates me to always strive to be the best chiropractor I can be.

What is your best asset as a doctor?

My best asset as a doctor would be that I treat each patient as if they were a part of my own family. Chiropractic care is not just about adjusting the spine. Everybody presents differently, and it is important to take the time to listen to every patient to create an individual and specific approach to help decrease the intensity and frequency of their pain.  I am big on patient education and teach my patient’s the tools they will need to help themselves not only decrease pain, but to stay out of pain. Sometimes a small change can make a big difference.

What is your favorite patient story in the past year?

There was a patient who presented with 9/10 low back and hip pain.  She was on her second steroid pack and was taking heavy pain-killers; neither of which decreased her pain. She stated that she slept on her reclining chair each night because it was too painful to sleep in her bed.  She was unable to dress herself in the morning without excruciating pain and was forced to take time off work as a day-care provider since she could not meet the demand of looking after young children.  After her first adjustment, she felt immediately better.  She still had a long road ahead of her, but for the first time in a long time, she was able to get dressed without the assistance of her husband. She continued care and is feeling immensely better.  She was able to return to work, go on vacation without an increase in pain, and sleep in her own bed for the first time in months.
